The coordinator of the Orange Caucus, Royfid Torres, expressed his concern about the growing pollution generated by the use of banners and single-use plastics at government events. He underscored the need to adopt measures that do not harm the environment and promoted a call to avoid the use of these materials in activity reports and event promotion in Mexico City. Torres highlighted that the excessive production of plastic is directly related to the climate crisis and its impacts on the environment.
Emphasizing the importance of acting responsibly, the congressman pointed out that pollution from promotional materials persists due to events such as federal and local government reports, as well as celebrations like the 700th anniversary of the founding of Mexico Tenochtitlan. He also warned about the risks of pollution from plastics in rivers, lakes, and oceans, as well as greenhouse gas emissions.
Torres lamented that despite the recycling promises made by some candidates during the 2024 electoral campaign, the initiative has not been fully realized. He pointed out that it is essential to drastically reduce the production of single-use plastics and advocated for the total elimination of the use of polluting materials in institutional communication.
